How much can I expect to be paid as a Support Worker working for Ability Care Direct?
There is no bait-and-switch attitude with Ability Care Direct. We understand that without excellent Supports Workers we cannot provide quality services to our participants, and account for the challenges you face as a Support Worker. For these reasons Ability Care Direct has transparent offers and pays above award wages.
Do I need to have the Covid-19 vaccines?
No, this requirement is currently no longer mandated by the government in the healthcare sector. For further information, please refer to the Department of Health & Human Services website.
Do I need a car?
In short yes, while we can hire someone without a car, we tend to avoid this as we need our staff to be able to attend shifts reliably.
Do you hire people without a qualification?
In short yes, however if you have never worked as a disability support worker before you will need the following documents:
• NDIS Screening Check/ Police check (while you wait for the NDIS Screening check)
• Working with Children Check
• Covid Certificate (all vaccines as per current government mandate)
• First Aid & CPR
• 100 points of ID
• Manual Handling Certificate (accredited)
• NDIS Orientation Module
It is important for all potential staff to know that to have a successful career as a Support Worker with Ability Care Direct you will need to have reliable transport including valid driver’s licence and insurance. One of the best parts of being a Support Worker is being able to take clients out into the community and get to know the great locations and experiences Melbourne has to offer and since you will be on the road visiting different clients it is very important that you are able to be on time and punctual.

How much or how little care can I arrange?
We specialise in providing both 24-hour care for people with high care needs and more casual care, which starts from a minimum of 2 hours as set by the industry standards.
Do I have to sign up for a certain period?
While there are no lock-in contracts, we are confident that once you experience the difference with Ability Care Direct, you’ll choose to stay with us.
How much does care cost?

How do we ensure our staff are professional and have the skills to work with clients?
All our carers undergo a detailed recruitment process including face to face interviews, reference checks, qualification check, NDIS screening/ police checks and working with children checks. In addition, all carers are required to have a first aid certificate, undertake training specific to the clients which they work with as well as participation in on-going training and education programs. For clients needing specialised care options we pay for staff training for such certificates as medical administration, peg feeding, and others as required.

People with a disability not currently on the NDIS
I’m not on the NDIS yet or don’t have and NDIS package, how do I get onto the NDIS?
We provide a free advocacy service to assist you on your NDIS journey, ensuring you obtain an NDIS package and commence receiving our services, if you choose.
Who can make a referral?
Anyone can refer NDIS participants to us. You may be a husband or wife, a family member, or a friend of someone who needs some extra care. We also receive referrals from doctors and other healthcare professionals and organisations.
